Title: Effects of plant growth regulators for micropropagation of Dendrobium cruentum Rchb. f., A. rare Thai orchid species

Abstract: Shoots were induced from protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) of Dendrobium cruentum Rchb. f. The highest production of shoots were observed on PLBs cultured on ½ Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar medium without plant growth regulators (PGRs-free). Effects of different PGRs, namely NAA and BA were compared for relative growth rate of six fold increase. Half PGRs-free MS agar medium gave the highest relative growth rate of 664 %. PGRs-free half strength MS agar medium gave the survival rate, shoot formation, the number of shoots/PLB and the relative growth rate about 100%, 96%, 39 shoots/PLB and 664%, respectively. In addition, the PLBs obtained from ½ PGRs-free MS agar medium without plant growth regulators showed dark green color and vigorous shoots while PLBs produced on ½ MS supplemented with 1.5 ppm BA gave a lot of PLBs.
